Worship
We aim to be a traditional ‘middle-of-the-road’ church
Although the Government has sanctioned communal worship within the strict guidelines, the PCC felt that, given the age of our congregations, it would be unwise to open our doors. So, whilst as a church we could legally meet, we have regrettably decided that for the sake of our community we shouldn’t. The weekly phone calls will begin again to keep us in touch with one another and to pass on items of news to those without internet access, and the pewsheet, readings and suggested form of worship from the Team Rector will continue to be emailed. They will also be available on the web site. The situation will be reviewed on the 21st January
RADIO & TV:
Radio 4 (94.4 FM) has Sunday Service at 8.10 a.m.
Radio Cumbria (96.1 FM) has a virtual service daily between 8.00 and 9.00 a.m.
TV will have Sunday Worship on BBC1 at 11.30 a.m. and Songs of Praise at 13.15 hours.
A letter of encouragement from Revd Sue Wilson can be found under What’s On, together with the weekly pewsheet, readings and other resources you might like to use.
All the information given below has been superseded under the current circumstances.
The community worships regularly in both St Paul’s and the Fell Churches, and St Paul’s is open daily for visitors. All are welcome to come inside to look round, for private prayer or meditation, or to enter names on our prayer tree. These names are mentioned in the intercessions at main services. Copies of this week’s Pew Sheet and Readings can be found in the What’s On section.

Other regular services at St Paul’s include Harvest Festival followed by a Parish Lunch; All Souls Service; and a Civic Remembrance Day service for the town. The Patronal Festival is celebrated in January followed by lunch. There is a full series of services through Holy Week to Easter Day (see photos for Easter 2018). At Christmas, there is traditionally a Christingle and Crib Service on Christmas Eve, and a Midnight Eucharist. Services for the young families in 2016 have included special events at Candlemas and Palm Sunday.
A recent addition has been a special afternoon service at the Fell Church for those people who receive Communion each month in their own homes because they are unable to get to church. However, three times a year – Christmas, Easter and in the summer – transport is arranged to bring them to the Fell Church for a simple service, followed by afternoon tea.
