Remembrance Sunday at St Paul’s
A busy Sunday at St Paul’s.
At the start of the morning service a recording of the last post was played before the two-minute, and the church’s wreath was presented at the altar.
In the afternoon the church was filled for the annual civic service. The official guests included the Deputy Lieutenant, Tim Farron MP and his wife, Roger Handley (Town Mayor), along with representatives of the District and Town Councils. The Union Flag and the Standard of the Royal British Legion led the procession of clergy, followed by the banners and colours of the uniformed organisations, and finally the wreath from the various organisations in the town were presented.
Three children from the Primary School carried to the sanctuary the wooden cross that once stood over the battlefield grave of a soldier from Grange, and a choir from the school sang ‘Let there be peace on earth’. The names of the men listed on the town’s war memorial were read out by the Mayor.
After the church service everyone made their way down to the ornamental gardens where Flookburgh Band were already assembled. A short act of worship and the wreaths were laid on the memorial. A very wet and sodden gathering.
